The Kiltwalk is a fun street walking event with the serious purpose of raising much needed funds for Scottish charities. The events are held regionally in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee. Thousands of people, including many families, come along and complete a range of different length walks to raise money for their preferred charity. Spectrum is delighted to be working with such a worthwhile and effective event.
Spectrum has provided cleaning and waste management services for the Kiltwalk for four years running now, from 2015 – 2018, for their venues across Scotland. It has always been something we are happy to do and proud to be involved with, which we hope will continue for many successful Kiltwalk’s to come. You can read about our work for Kiltwalk 2018 here.
Like any street event, there are particular challenges that need to be considered; the event is over a variety of distances right up the full length of 26 miles, and there are various checkpoints and entry stages along the route. All of these areas have to be cleaned and the waste removed. However it’s not only the official checkpoint areas, the whole route has to be clean and safe for the participants. Add to this the unpredictable weather conditions and you can start to imagine the amount of planning that goes into the day. However, it is careful planning based on our expertise and knowledge that ensures the smooth running of the contract.
Whilst the route is a main part of the overall contract, it is the busy areas like the starting point where the participants gather that tend to need close attention; with so many people starting from the one point, it is essential to maintain a clean and safe environment for participants, officials and onlookers alike.
We have also provided similar service to other road races such as The Great Scottish Run, you can find details of this project here.
